Questions and Cognomens

Why are we afraid of the dark
When moonlight never hurt us?

Why do we play with things that
Intend to control us?

Why do we love the light
When it’s the light that burns us?

Why do we long for the sky
If all we are is dust?

Why seek to live forever
Unless this body is a husk,
A container
For something greater?

Twinkling stars attract us
Because our mortal frame
Knows a creator and that
He gave them names.

We know that our names are a lie,
Because we’re the ones who named us,

Before our life-breath dies
We want to know what he named us.
